At least five police personnel were injured on Tuesday when an improvised explosive device (IED) targeted a patrol vehicle in Lakki Marwat, highlighting ongoing security challenges in the region.

According to District Police Officer Nazir Khan, the attack took place in the Shahbazkhel police station area when a motorcycle-borne IED struck a police mobile. Among the injured were Assistant Sub-Inspector Jamaluddin, constable Arif, and driver Mir Hassan.

The wounded officers were promptly shifted to a nearby hospital, where they are receiving medical treatment. Officials said their condition is being closely monitored.

Following the incident, DPO Nazir Khan visited the site along with a heavy police contingent, as well as teams from the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) and Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS). Authorities conducted an initial assessment and launched a comprehensive investigation into the attack.

Security in the area has been tightened, and a large-scale search operation is underway to apprehend those responsible. Police officials have vowed to bring the perpetrators to justice at the earliest.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has witnessed a surge in militant activity in recent years, particularly after the changing security dynamics following developments in neighbouring Afghanistan. Law enforcement agencies have frequently been targeted in such attacks.

The latest incident comes amid a series of similar attacks in the province. Just last month, multiple police personnel were killed in an IED explosion in the same district, underlining persistent threats faced by security forces.

Authorities say counterterrorism efforts will continue, with enhanced vigilance and coordinated operations aimed at restoring stability in the affected areas.
